Long convoluted passage incoming...!
According to the dA gallery blurb, Spirit Day is TODAY (I live under a rock and didn't notice) and was started because of the series of suicides related to being bullied about sexual orientation. I think the event is generalized to all bullying, but there might be more of a focus on sexual identity pride? I'm not actually sure.
Either way, bullying is something that needs to be prevented. So many people get bullied every day. So many kids hate school, hate the idea of going to a place where they don't feel safe because of their peers. I'm not searching down statistics, but chances are, you've been through anti-bullying assemblies and/or watched viral videos and such. Whether it's physical or emotional, bullying hurts. You never know for sure how it can hurt someone.
I've never been... directly bullied. Most of my social problems lie in the "neglect" category, and whenever somebody felt the need to insult me, they did it behind my back or said it to their friend within ear-shot. The extent of my insults have been "ugly" (lots of that) and "weird." I consider myself lucky, actually, because it could have been so much worse. Even though I have no horrendous bullying experiences, I still support every single victim. Even if it's a little insult, it can tear at somebody's self-esteem and build up negativity over time, and I don't wish that upon anybody. I still strongly believe that I am ugly to this day.
I wish I could be there for everybody, but I can't. I'll try not to go off on a tangent here, but basically, whenever anybody is upset, I try to get a smile on his/her face. Very rarely can I offer advice. Most of the time, people don't even WANT advice. But smiling has some sort of positive affect on the brain. So use those muscles!
Bullies are everywhere, whether they know it or not. I'm not going to pretend that I have ideas on how to stop it. What I want to do is focus on supporting the people being affected because the words have been said and the blows have been struck, and chances are, they'll remain in the person's memory for a lifetime.
TL;DR: ALL OF YOU CAN GET THROUGH THIS. ALL OF YOU CAN RANT TO ME IF NECESSARY. YOU CAN (most likely) SEEK OUT HELP. MOST IMPORTANTLY, YOU ALL DESERVE TO BE YOURSELF. YOU ALL DESERVE TO SMILE.
Now, peace. It is late and I should be resting.
